Random Country Generator
Spin the world wheel: one country out of 195, with its capital. Filter by continent in one tap.
What is a random country generator?
A random country generator picks one country for you out of the 195 in the world: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus its two observer states, Palestine and Vatican City. Each slice of this world wheel is a country, and the result also gives its capital, so one spin can launch a quiz, a lesson or a travel daydream.
The continent chips above the wheel narrow the draw to a single continent. Switch to Elimination and each country leaves the wheel once drawn, so nobody gets France twice in the same quiz. It is free, needs no sign-up, and your edited list stays on your device.
How to use the country wheel
- Keep “All 195” to spin the whole world, or tap a continent chip.
- Press Spin or flick the wheel with your finger.
- Read the result: the country, then its capital.
- For a series without repeats, open Settings and set “After each spin” to Elimination. “Reset all” brings every country back.
The 195 countries by continent
Countries are grouped by continent, then sorted alphabetically. Countries that straddle two continents follow the United Nations regional classification: Russia counts as Europe; Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan count as Asia; Central America and the Caribbean belong to North America.

Play a capital city quiz
The wheel makes a ready-made capitals quiz. One person holds the phone or runs the projector, spins, and reads only the country aloud. The first player to name the capital wins the point, then the screen is turned around to check the answer shown in the result. Pick the continent to match the level: Europe for beginners, Africa or Oceania for experts.
Keep a few traps for bonus points: Australia (Canberra, not Sydney), Canada (Ottawa), Turkey (Ankara), Brazil (Brasília), Nigeria (Abuja) and Myanmar (Naypyidaw).
Choose a travel destination
Stuck between ten trip ideas? Let the country wheel choose. Tap the continent you can reach, then switch to List view and untick the countries you have already visited: they stay in your list but leave the wheel. Some travelers spin every January to pick the year’s dream trip. If the arrow lands on Morocco, the random Moroccan city wheel narrows it down to one of 50 cities.
Geography activities with the world wheel
In the classroom
Put the wheel in full screen on the board for a “country of the week”: the class spins on Monday, then finds it on the map and names its neighbors. Pair it with the random letter generator for a round of “a country starting with B”.
At home or with friends
Each player spins and names a dish, a landmark or a famous person from their country within 20 seconds. Football fans can follow up with the random football team generator.
On a stream
“Cook a dish from a random country” makes a great challenge, and chat sees the spin live.
Is the country wheel really random?
Yes. With “All 195” selected, each country has exactly the same chance: 1 in 195, about 0.51%. Tap Oceania and it becomes 1 in 14. The winning country is drawn by your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts turning, and the animation simply stops on it. The wheel fairness page explains the method and lets you run your own test.
Frequently asked questions
How many countries are there in the world?
The most widely used count is 195: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus the two observer states, Palestine and Vatican City, as on this wheel. Partially recognized states such as Kosovo or Taiwan and territories such as Greenland are not included, but you can add them to your own copy of the wheel.
Can I spin only one continent?
Yes. Tap one of the six chips above the wheel: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania. The wheel instantly keeps only the countries of that continent, each with an equal share. Tap “All 195” to bring the whole world back. For a custom group, such as the European Union, paste your own list into a new wheel.
Is the capital shown with the country?
Yes. Each entry reads “Country (capital: City)”. The slice shows only the country name so the wheel stays readable, and the result shows the full line. When a country has several capitals, we give the constitutional one, such as Sucre for Bolivia and Amsterdam for the Netherlands, and Pretoria, the seat of government, for South Africa.
How do I run a flag quiz with the wheel?
Spin a country and give every player 30 seconds to sketch its flag on paper, then compare with an atlas or an image search. Score one point for the right colors and two for the right layout. Set the wheel to Elimination so the same country never comes up twice.
Why is Russia in Europe but Turkey in Asia?
Several countries straddle two continents, so we follow the United Nations regional classification used by statisticians. Russia is listed in Eastern Europe, while Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are in Western or Central Asia. Egypt stays in Africa. If your course uses another convention, adjust your own copy of the list.
